Springing to SoCal Valleys, Death and Owens

We are in Southern California on a wee adventure. We have our little trailer with our little dirt bikes, camping and motelling when the combined and/ors of too hot, cold, wet and windy make the camping very unenjoyable.

We arrived at Death Valley first, and it’s high season. We had hoped to camp at Texas Springs, in Furnace Creek, but it was a Friday, and it was full. We had to settle for Sunset, which is just a huge, open flat lot. We stayed two nights, and did a dirt ride on the West Side road. It was hot, and very windy, so we moved over to Mesquite Spring Campground near Ubehebe Crater for the third night. On the way though, a sand storm was in full force.

We stayed in Death Valley for a week, did a few motorbike rides, but then things started to heat up. Not quite up to the sustained 30 degree weather, so we moved to the other side of the range, now in Owens Valley, from Bishop to Lone Pine. We did one ride over these mountains, which helped us decide to stay on this side for a bit.
