We are at day five in the Grasslands National Park, a repeat of our visit last year, Sept 2020.
We really like this place so very much. There’s such a sense of calm and serenity – yes I do realize it’s September, not January; and the weather has been favourable. But still, big skies, such interesting terrain, badlands, river valleys, and that amazing and endless sometimes blue sky. The quiet is intense in its silence, sometimes all I can hear is the ringing in my ears. Other times, the ringing is replaced with those very intense and annoying winds, or the other worldly on and off howling of the coyotes, some off in the distance and others seemingly much, much closer. It’s all so very awesome.
Another repeat of last year, is our hike to the 1000 Devils. Parks Canada added an additional loop this year; from what the Parks Supervisor said, was that they are trying to protect certain areas from too much use. The loop isn’t so nice, in our humble opinions, but, we did it, adding three kms to our 10.5 kms hike. Eventually we got to our destination and like last year we were not disappointed.
On our way back from the 1000 Devils, we were welcomed by a rainbow over the campground. It’s the first I’ve seen in quite some time, it was short lived as was the small downpour of rain that lasted for perhaps 30 seconds. We’re looking forward to another couple of weeks riding our dirt bikes in south west Saskatchewan, making short little posts like these.
The 1000 Devils hike, a Swedish devil appears at the end. 😕
